Ricky Powell
|
Ricky Powell was born in New York city. He specialises in the 'outside world'. He photographs what is around the streets where he lives. For twenty years Ricky Powell have toured with world known hip hop acts. He likes to capture images of everyday new yorkers. He has worked closes with the beastie boys as well as public enemies. From 1990-1996 he presented a tv show called rappin with the rickster when he interview numerous stars on the show including: Russell Simmons, Doug E Fresh, Harold Hunter, Kool Keith, Rahzel, Laurence Fishburne and Cypress Hill. “Rappin’ With the Rickster” often has the been called the world’s hippest-ever public access TV show, as Powell gave insight into the artistic phenomena of the day, with an excess of candid footage, impromptu interviews, and a vision of Powell’s New York. Powell considered the show “a time capsule of someone growing up in Manhattan during that era and being around the music scene”.

Shadows and ReflectionsLots of photographers take pictures of shadows and reflections. When I took the photos it was a sunny day so this allow me to take shadows and reflection images. I also took shadows and reflection pictures inside because there were shadows and reflection and the light from inside was reflecting to the wall. I took pictures of people reflections and shadows. For example I uses doors, windows and display boards to get the reflection. I also took a picture of the light reflecting through the doors of the back stairs.

Looking DownLots of photographer take looking down images. I took 13 looking down images. I took picture to looking down at the floor inside and outside the building. I also took a picture looking down at the floor but with a person in it. I also took a looking down picture with red and blue line being parallel. It also shows a reflection of the lines on the wall. I also took a picture looking down at stair but when looking at the stair it don't look like a staircase, it looks like geometrical shapes. Looking down photos also give things an unusual perspective, for example the photo looking down at the link look like a cage.

Cropping
|
I took pictures that were cropped. I took 4 images of cropping with a ipod. Cropping gives the image a interesting product with one main section in the image. Cropping makes everyday life look unusual. The picture with the lock shows the lock very big compare to it real size. The photographer was close to the subject because we can see the detail of each focal point. The background is neat and minimal in the images of the lock and the shoes but in the other two images the backgrounds are more busy. The fourth picture of the shoes has an interesting composition.

over the shoulderI took pictures of over the shoulder with people walking. At the time I took the images people were moving so I had to be in the right place at the right time. Some of the images are different because in some pictures there is lots of people and I capture them by their shoulders. The images there are lots of light because when I took the images it was a bright sunny day. One of the picture have got a reflection on the windows showing another building and the reflection is going all the way down to the door.

Walk on byI took images of people walking on the walkway to their lessons. several of the pictures have got people walking on the walkway and look like the rush hour at London bridge. The colour in some of the images is cloudy but it is still bright with light reflecting down. One of the images is dark with people walking on the stairway. It is dark because the stairway is blocking the light reflecting in.

surfacesI took several images of surfaces of different textures, pattern and colours. One of the images is the mat going across on the walk way with a circular pattern. You can see this by taking a closer look at it. Some of the images I took were surfaces of the ground outside the building. The ground is concrete and the colour of the surfaces is grey but one of them is stones and soil but manly all of my images of surfaces are made of concrete for example the stand of the table tennis is made of concrete.
