My name is Jack Cooper and I am studying GCSE photography at Thomas Tallis School. I been interested in photography since I got my first mobile phone in 2004 and been taking pictures since.
1. How should a good photograph express the photographer's intention? How should the photograph express what the photographer wishes to say his/her meaning?
A photograph should express the photographer's intention in the sense that it should express the feeling or atmosphere of the moment the photograph was taken. For example, in this image of the tank, it shows the brutality of conflict and upheaval. The smoke and rubble also convey a sense of disorder which becomes apparent in wartime or violence.

2. How can a good photograph communicate something that words cannot?
Words cannot always convey the composition, shape, texture, tone or emotion of a place or situation, particularly in either natural or social phenomenons. For example, in this photograph there are lots of unique shadows and textures, such as in the rocks and the clouds that words might not always be able to describe. With some things, you have to be able to see it to understand.

3. How can a good photograph engage or capture the viewer's attention?
A good photograph can engage or capture the viewer attention because the picture is standing out and the tone can also stand out and capture the viewer attention.

4. Can a good photograph make a person feel sympathy or sadness or happiness?
A good photograph can make a person feel sympathy , sadness or happiness by the background of the picture. For example this picture would make the person feel sadness because is blank and there is war going on and people are risking there lives by being at war. The destruction shows that soldiers probably died here, and knowing the context of the photograph helps because we know that it was taken at the invasion of Dunkirk where thousands of soldiers died.

5. Do you think that a good photograph is best shown alone , or do you think that photographs should be shown as a collection with many others?
I think photographs should be shown as a collection because if there just one image is won't stand out but if the image was in a collection people would take more interest in it. However, there are instances in which a single photograph might have more impact on its own. This is evident in many portrait photographs, for example in "L'inconnue de la seine". If there was more than one image in this instance, the overall meaning and impact of the photograph would be undermined.

6. Do you think that a good photograph can demand a response from the viewer for example do you think that it should make the viewer say or think something/look at the photo overleaf for example does this photo make you want to ask question?
A good photograph can demand a response because of the setting and when it was taken. For example this photo shows that this was taken a long time ago and can suggest that back then is was poor. Furthermore, images that go outside our understanding of normality can have an emotional impact. For example in photographs or images of natural disasters or poverty. Many people in the UK are not used to seeing this so when they are confronted with an image of such events it produces more of an emotional response in viewers.

7. Should a good photograph be well composed and have good lighting?
Yes because it will stand out and it will be in high demands to look at and it will be easier to see the whole picture. This seems to be more important in landscape photography and in photographs of nature.
